Position: Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer

3Par is seeking a Sr. staff-level position for a Mechanical Engineer.  You will have key responsibilities for the specification and design of new products.  You will also provide technical leadership for the team as well as mentor less senior engineers.  Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, and you must be able to multitask and work effectively at all levels in an extremely fluid environment.

Essential Functions:
- Detail definition and management of technical program deliverables at the individual and team level
- Documentation of product and equipment specifications
- Design and documentation of all levels of electro-mechanical and mechanical assemblies
- Identify and source new technologies and manufacturing methods
- Provide technical guidance and leadership within the Product Design group
- Provide mentorship and training for less senior engineers
- Provide key cross-functional interaction and communication with other Engineering groups, Operations, Customer Service, Quality, and Marketing

Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally
- Proficiency in the specification and design of sheetmetal, plastics, extrusions, and die casting for both low and high-volume applications, as well as knowledge of industry trends for these technologies
- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and their application to enclosure design/disk drive packaging and cross-functional knowledge of PC board assemblies and power systems
- Strong knowledge of product compliance, safety, and environmental testing methodologies and standards and their relationship to product design
- Direct experience managing vendors and technical contractors/consultants as well as task-level management of junior staff
- Ability to balance numerical analysis techniques with hands-on troubleshooting and verification
- High level of multitasking, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Ability to quickly change roles based on project requirements
- Strong ability and willingness to perform a mix of high and low-level tasks within a team environment

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency using Solidworks 2008 or later
- Proficiency using Flotherm or similar CFD software
- Strong hands-on ability and basic lab and shop skills
- Strong understanding of drafting and documentation conventions and standards

Education/Experience:
- BSME or equivalent
