Job Description:

3PAR is actively searching for a systems engineer to join our sales team. This position is responsible for providing the technical leadership in both the pre-sales and post-sales efforts to insure the achievement of 3PAR revenue and customer satisfaction goals. Daily activities include presentations, installs, integration testing, and adoption of 3PAR’s products in customer’s technology infrastructure or in partner’s solutions offering.
The System Engineer will partner with the Account Manager as the technical lead and technical expert to support the sales process to achieve established revenue and customer satisfaction goals. Work closely with the Customer Satisfaction group to assist in installing the proposed system and provide ongoing assistance to optimize performance and reliability. Partner with Customer Satisfaction and the end-user customer in order to achieve customer satisfaction goals. Work with Product Marketing and Engineering to provide input concerning current and future products. Conducts technical site assessment at client site to document existing environment. Defines customer requirement specifications. Provide customer support both pre and post sale including all technical presales activities. Acts as the technical liaison for the sales team, customers, and engineering team by providing support during the sales process. Performs technical presentations to customer and prospects. Assists in the development and generation of formal sales proposals to ensure technical accuracy. Manages direct account and partner responsibilities for selected accounts in assigned territory.

Experience and Skills:

BS/BA (technical degree preferred) or equivalent and 5+ years experience as a storage administrator (NAS, SAN, or Direct Attach) or systems administrator working with storage in Sun Solaris, Microsoft NT/2000, HP-UX, Tru-64, Linux or IBM-AIX environments.
Experience in Sun Solaris or Microsoft NT/2000 is required and additional experience with HP-UX, Tru-64, or IBM-AIX would be useful.
Requires solid technical credentials in Unix or Microsoft infrastructures.
Knowledge in the following areas is highly desirable: Oracle I/O sub-systems performance tuning, Veritas VxVM/DMP and NetBackup, Fibre Channel and SCSI protocols, RAID, Storage Area Networks(SAN), Enterprise Framework Applications (Tivoli TEC, CA UniCenter, HP-Open View), HBA and Driver installation (Sun, Qlogic, JNI, Emulex).
Familiarity with various methods of Data Migration, Data Protection and High Availability are also desired.
Storage industry experience in a pre and post sales role is preferred.
Willingness to travel and provide off hours support to customers as necessary.
Excellent relationship-building, communication and presentation skills are required.
Must have a strong customer service orientation and a strong sense of initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven start-up environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong negotiation abilities.
Ability to add value to a team and assume a leadership role in that team.
Demonstrated technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to formulate a plan of attack involving multiple people and organizations, and then follow through with that plan.
Detailed knowledge of full product line and thorough competitive analysis and understanding of key competitor offerings.
Ability to attract, manage and retain technical personnel to support business growth.
35%-50% travel.
