Have you ever found it hard to look for a job because you don’t know which of
the pigeon holes known as job titles fit you the best? Do you feel that labels
like ”IT support specialist” and ”QA engineer” fail to describe your varied
technical skills and your strengths in areas other  than technology? Then
perhaps you belong in a small, growing organization that will put your diverse
experience and interests to work.

StopBadware is an organization that’s trying to… well, stop badware. You know,
badware: computer viruses, spyware, fake anti-virus programs that trick your
grandma into paying $29, that sort of thing. It turns out, fighting badware is a
big job, so we’re working with some companies you may have heard of Google,
PayPal, Mozilla and our volunteer community to figure out how to do it better.

Doing it better requires us to provide services, data, reports, and other tools
and information that help people and companies fight badware effectively. This
is where you come in. One day, you might build a virtual machine environment to
help you test applications. Another, you might pore over a spreadsheet looking
for trends in website infections. In between, you may find yourself checking the
work of our testing interns or drafting a report about the state of the web
hosting industry.

This job won’t be easy. You’ll have to manage your time effectively, ensuring
that routine but important tasks get done regularly while leaving time for new
projects. You’ll have to improvise at times, but without sacrificing the
consistency and quality of your work. But, hey, you can handle it, because
you’ve worked in a professional environment before, and your cover letter and
resume will show how your experience makes you the perfect person for the job.

StopBadware is a pretty great place to work. Jeans are standard attire, and
there are even opportunities to work from home on occasion. We share a big, open
office in Harvard Square with folks from Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet &
Society (from which we spun off) and the Public Radio Exchange team. We offer a
fair salary and a solid benefits package, including health, dental, and 401(k).
Perhaps more importantly, we offer the opportunity to get paid to learn, have a
good time, and make the Internet safer!
