software for mission critical applications for the defense and aerospace
industries.

Position Responsibilities - Summary:

The client is a software engineering development company. They develop
software for mission critical applications for the defense and aerospace
industries.

They are looking for a division leader to lead a development team of up to
75 and generate revenue for the division. The person will be responsible for
25% hands on development 50% management of the division and 25% business development.

Division Leader will be responsible for the organizational leadership and
line management of approximately 70 employees organized in five (5) groups
including Technical Staff Members (~60), Administrative Support Personnel,
and the Division’s graduate and undergraduate students.

They will be asked to work a variety of internal and external clients.

Reports to the VP of SW Engineering.

Key Technical Capabilities of this Division are:

1. Tactical Guidance, Navigation, and Control
2. Advanced Navigation, GPS, and Localization
3. Close-In C4ISR Systems

These capabilities enable us to provide solutions for our customers in
application areas involving guided munitions, precision airdrop systems, GPS
challenged navigation, tracking and locating systems, difficult access
robotics, and communications and signal processing for small systems.

The Division Leader provides leadership for the development of our technical
offerings, which provide our sponsors with value-added software solutions in
our key technical capabilities. The Division Leader provides the overall
leadership of the Division with assistance from the Division’s five (5)
Group Leaders and Division Staff.

Specific Division Leader Responsibilities will include:

1. Organizational leadership including the development and maturation of the
Division’s technical capabilities and discriminating technologies
2. Business development technical support for the development and
advancement of key technical capabilities
3. Management of staff hiring and recruiting
4. The development of the Division’s Strategic Plan
5. Oversight of the quality of execution of projects led by Division staff
6. Implementation of Integrated Quality Management within the Division
7. Personnel resource management for projects staffed by the Division
8. Career development of the future leaders of the organization through
mentoring, growth assignments, professional seminars, and other educational
opportunities.
9. Promotion and annual raise recommendations for the members of the
division.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- The candidate must have experience as a leader for a R&D software
engineering group for a defense contractor - May have worked for firms like
BEA - Lockheed - Northrop or other defense related firms.
- Substantial, 10+ Years experience as a software development
leader, leading a large group, with a defense contractor.
- Significant experience developing and managing developers for
mission critical software applications in a real time operating environment.
- The ability to manage up to 75 people.
- 10 Years + exp as a hands on software engineer in an embedded
environment - C/C++ - Requires some hands on work.
- Must have experience with Kernel Level software development for a
real time operating environment.
- Must have Strong contacts with government sponsors in the
Information and Decision Systems domain area.
- The qualified candidate must be performance driven, and have
demonstrated consistently outstanding performance in his/her career. The
ability to work within a team environment is a must. Must be a self- starter
and be able to implement new processes to a variety of mil specs.
- Must be US citizen and have the ability to get a TS clearance.
- Must have a BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. Masters or Ph.D
Preferred.
