Job Description:
The Virtual Desktop Alliance Technologist will be the primary technical
interface between VMware and our rapidly expanding ecosystem of desktop
technology partners. This individual will work closely with the Strategic
Partner Development Manager to  defineand execute the technical aspects of
our strategy.  This strategy will align VMware’s corporate desktop
objectives with that of our desktop alliance partners to enable VMware to
win the desktop market in 2010 and beyond.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct architectural reviews of new partners looking to join the
VMware ecosystem and advise on how these partners fit with the VMware
product portfolio
- Educate partners in the desktop ecosystem on VMware products and
technology (training, roadmap updates etc).
- Direct partners to perform testing and validation of their products
with VMware products either in the VMware labs or at partner labs
- Identify areas for joint integration opportunities and solutions with
VMware products
- Create and deliver these solutions to market in the form of design wins
and joint solutions
- Act as primary technical interface between desktop partners and
internal VMware groups such as Product Management, Ecosystem Engineering,
Validation Services, Global Support Services etc
- Educate and evangelize to VMware sales teams and channel sales teams on
VMware + partner technologies and solutions
- Serve as technical evangelist for desktop partners at VMware
conferences and other industry events
- Create technical collateral (whitepapers, presentations etc) to enables
sales opportunities

Requirements:
- 8+ years experience in technology-related field, three to five of which
should be as in a field facing role (SE/Consulting/Alliances)
- Experience with virtual desktop technology, ideally at the pre-sales
solution design level or post-sales implementation level.
- He or she will often be the sole VMware representative in interactions
with the partner. He or she should be an accomplished communicator of
business and technical concepts. The ability to present extemporaneously is
required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral are required. He
or she should have the ability to articulate technical concepts in terms of
business value to a VMware partner.
- Technical skills in one of more the following areas:
- Citrix XenApp/Presentation Server, Sun Microsystems Sun-Ray or other
similar experience at the technical level with virtual desktop solutions.
- Thorough knowledge and experience with planning and configuring x86
computer, networking, and security protocols and architectures. In addition,
the candidate should be comfortable with operating system installations,
troubleshooting and configuration; with specific emphasis on Desktop
operating systems.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent
experience is required. Master’s Degree Preferred.
- Up to 30% travel.
