Position Responsibilities - Summary:

Reporting to the VP and CTO, Digital Media, the Director, Web Engineering
and Development will be responsible for building and leading the team of
software engineers and web developers responsible for an online
entertainment destination.

- Recruit and lead teams of software engineers and web developers
responsible for the development of scalable back-end systems and front-end
web presentation-layer consumer entertainment experiences - Will be
responsible for building out about a 20 person team - All local.
- Develop and evolve effective software development methodology
which leverages current tools and methods and results in optimally
efficient, high quality, reliable development and delivery on large and
small projects
- Manage team leaders and individual contributors responsible for
the development of back-end systems and front-end presentation software and
components supporting the clients online game, video, and associated site
entertainment content
- Works collaboratively with Product teams, QA, Operations, and
other teams to develop and evolve leading processes to ensure consistent,
high quality deliveries
- Ensures systems and components are designed and implemented to
deliver functional and when necessary highly scalable solutions supporting
- Lead/mentor managers and lead engineers in development process,
technical and managerial decision making, and leadership
Required Skills and Competencies:
- 10+ years engineering software for consumer facing web businesses,
3+ years leading teams of engineers or developers
- Proven experience leading teams utilizing full lifecycle software
development methodologies which enable the on-time, on-budget, delivery of
complex scalable networked systems
- In-depth knowledge and extensive experience with three-tier web
platforms, in particular (but not exclusively) utilizing open source
components
- Sound knowledge of Unix/Linux, modern networking components and
protocols
- Experience with systems and web programming languages (C, C++, C#,
.NET, PHP, Java), most importantly those utilized in LAMP based systems
- Significant experience with JavaScript/AJAX/HTML/CSS/DOM
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general
public.?
- Experience recruiting, leading and managing individual
contributors and small teams - Needs to be close to all the above
technologies.
- Ability to proactively identify project and technology related
risks and provide mitigation strategies
- Experience working within a Waterfall, Iterative or Agile
development methodology
- BS in Information Systems or Computer Science, or related
technical degree or practical experience
- Strong communication and influencing skills
