Our client company in the SF Bay Area, CA is looking for a full time Director of Technical Operations. Base salary up to $140k/yr plus bonus structure and full benefits. Relocation is not an option as only local candidate will be considered at this time. Job Description Summary:
TheDirector of Technical Operations is responsible for directing the teamsof Systems Administrators, Database Administrators and TechnicalSupport Engineers, which provide technical support and maintenance toour customers on an application which is critical to their day to dayoperations, as well as to internal groups including Product Engineering, Product Management, QA and Sales.

Thisposition reports in to the Vice President of Customer Services and isresponsible for directing the technical teams who support the operationof the existing infrastructure, internal environments and databases forall advertising teams and our customers’ production and test systems.

Job Responsibilities:
Monitoring systems, databases and networks for proper operation and performance. Providing a 7×24 on call support for the operations infrastructure and customer support.Providing an escalation point when customer issues might be related to the operational environment or database.Establishingrecommended configurations for the applications operating environment,including computer hardware, storage, software and configurationnecessary to properly host our applications. Ensuringthat our technical staff is current and trained on the latestupgrades and/or new releases of our products, as well as patches,upgrades and new releases of third party software required for ourcustomers’ use of our applications.Establishing standard processes for diagnosing issues, tracking status and escalating issues within and outside the group. Establishing product and process improvement plans to reduce support effort and increase product availability and scalability.Establishingand maintaining lines of communication with design engineering andsoftware development on design, reliability and maintenance issues.Workingwith other Directors and Managers in the organization to ensureinternal and customer support needs are addressed as efficiently andeffectively as possible.Establishingoperational objectives, strategies and work plans to improve currentoperations as well as planning for future products and customerrequirements, delegating assignments to subordinate managers.Establishing and assuring adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements.Regularlyinteracting with senior management or executive levels on mattersconcerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.
TheDirector of Technical Operations works directly with key customercontacts, as well as our customer support, and engineering groups toaddress any customer issues and must work to maintain availability of our applications and to ensure that we meet our Service LevelAgreements. This position deals directly with customers at variouslevels of the customer’s organization, and as our product ismission critical for our customers, at times the Director of TechnicalOperations will need to work extended hours with their teams and underconsiderable pressure in order to successfully resolve issues.

Thisrole involves technical implementation and cross-functionalcollaboration to meet the our business goals in a fast-facedenvironment. The Director of Technical Operationsis responsiblefor establishing and maintaining support processes and product,environment and process improvements that allow improved supportproductivity and eliminate repetitive problems and issues.

Thecandidate is expected to be self-motivated, proactive andsolution-oriented. They must be willing to mentor and challenge theirstaff, lead technical projects, assist team members in meeting theirindividual goals and to promote a positive attitude and work culture. The Director of Technical Operations has overall accountability for thework of their teams, supporting their staff, coaching and mentoringtheir managers and teams in their diagnosis and root cause analysistechniques, while at times, also directly leading the troubleshootingefforts for complex systems.

Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years experience (2 years at Director level) in managing a team responsible for the operations and management of a mission critical system or environment, with proven track record of process improvement and improving product reliability and supportability, and reducing support effort.10to 12 years overall experience maintaining enterprise operations and technology, specifically in Oracle or MS SQL Server databases, Oracle experience preferred. Windows Server Administration and/or Local/WAN network administration. Experience with Solaris or Linux system administration would also be desirable. 2plus years of hands on experience in analyzing and/or specifying system capacity, performance, backup and error recovery for a database application environment. Experience with configuration, maintenance and performance analysis of mass storage devices and/or SAN type devices. Good project management skills, with proven ability to direct and make progress on multiple projects/issues simultaneously. Strong troubleshooting ability for issues in complex environments, with a proven ability to pursue multiple possible causes and/or solutions in parallel. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience in communication with and providing status at various levels of anorganization both internally and externally. Must be able to present and discuss technical information to technical audiences and also beable to summarize key points and actions for non-technical audiences.Experience with using support tracking tools to monitor open cases and current workload, identify trends and eliminate repetitive and future problems. A bachelor’s degree in computer Science or Information Technology i srequired, with a Master’s degree preferred. Oracle Database Administrator experience is preferred, but not essential.
