Manager of System Operations (Focused on Production Systems)

We’re looking to fill a key position in our organization.  This person must blend senior level Unix/Linux systems experience and contribute technically to the work the team needs done, and also have some solid experience line-managing several Systems Administrators of various seniorities.  If you’re goal-driven, able to handle interruptions while multitasking between several projects, and a fan of “work smarter, not harder”, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day management/tasking of several Systems Administrators.

- Responsible for extended key projects, and must work closely with project managers to meet timelines.  This position will need to line-manage technical resources and have a technical understanding that is as deep as the contributing resources.

- Configure and tune system and network parameters for optimum performance.

- Monitor system stability and performance.

- Help develop tools to build, maintain, and monitor systems.

- Ensure 24×7x365 operation.

- Rapidly scale systems to meet demand.

- Participate in architecture decisions.

- Write comprehensive documentation.

Requirements:
- Must have 10+ years as a Unix/Linux administrator

- Must have 5+ years as a Sr. Unix/Linux administrator

- Must have been a Sr. Unix, Linux, or SAN storage administrator twice in previous roles

- Must have 2+ years as Tech Lead/Line Manager, with day-to-day responsibility for at least two Systems Administrators

- Most recently worked with Solaris 10 and RHEL/CentOS 4/5; must have deep knowledge of these environments, and be able to answer probing questions about them

- Deep expertise in Unix/Linux systems administration, MTAs, web servers, load balancers, VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS), Storage (EMC, Brocade, NetApp), Network and Host Security, and relevant protocols (SMTP, HTTP, SSL, DNS, NFS).

- Mid to Senior level programming/scripting in at least two languages (any kind of shell; the other a higher-level language).

- Solid grasp of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.

- Multiple years of experience in fast-paced high-availability production environments (e.g. ISPs, ASPs, SaaS, etc.) with an emphasis on remote “lights-out” management of systems.  A sense of urgency (but not panic) is key.

- Outstanding troubleshooting ability.

- Excellent verbal, written, and customer service skills.

- Must be willing/able to pass an initial technical screening via telephone
