We have an immediate need for a Sr. LINUX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR with our client in REDWOOD CITY, CA. This is a CONTRACT opportunity for 6 months with a possibility of a full time hire.

Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will be capable of working in both Unix and Networking environments and will have detailed expertise on Linux in addition to solid experience on another and exposure to a third (FreeBSD, AIX, Solaris, HPUX).  Intermediate to senior Cisco networking skills are essential.  This is a tactical position requiring detailed technical knowledge and experience.  The ability to deliver to completion (documentation, internal cross-training, QA and handoff) under a constant and heavy workload is essential.

Responsibilities:
Linux server and Asterix VoIP infrastructure deployment, architecting, documenting, upgrading, monitoring, and repairing the security, network, and server elements of the IT and Development environments.

Assist in maintaining all firewalls, including Cisco and FreeBSD IPFW rules (Not a must)

Maintain and manage all Linux applications and services including kickstart and VMWare environments

Implement new Linux applications where necessary

Manage Linux/Windows backups and offsite storage of tape media

Work closely with Windows/Mac Administrator to ensure *seamless* integration between environments

Maintain systems in development/demo lab area

Test and evaluate hardware for project/site purposes

Maintain complete documentation of all Unix systems

Professional Qualifications:
The ideal candidate has/is:
At least seven (7) years experience as a Linux server administrator

At least four (4) years customer service related experience

Proficient with Unix shell, file systems, scripting (bash, sh, perl, python, PHP), resource management, named

Proficient with Linux (RHEL 5.x, CentOS) and BSD

Proficient with NFS, Samba, DHCP, RSA, LDAP, NIS+, Apache, advanced BIND

Familiar with build environments CVS/Perforce/bitkeeper or other major SCM exposure

Familiar with Radius and/or Tacacs and understanding of AAA

Familiar with Opensource monitoring technologies * Nagios, Cacti, MRTG, OpenNMS, SNMP

Familiar with dialer systems (pppd, chap)

Outstanding customer service skills

Outstanding time management skills

Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal in English

Highly self-motivated, as well as capable of inspiring other team members to perform

The ability to work in a multi-tasking environment

BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience

Willing and able to work 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday

Willing and able to perform on-call rotation one week out of five

Willing to work overtime/weekends as needed
