Position: Product Manager

Location: San Ramon, CA

Job Description:

The Product Manager reports to the Vice President, Product Management,
who is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Product
Management department. The Product Management team is responsible for
product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle,
including: the definition of the market/opportunity, defining the
product vision, gathering and prioritizing product and customer
requirements, and working closely with all organizational units to
ensure that profitability and client satisfaction goals are met.
Product Managers also ensure that their product line(s) supports the
organization’s overall strategy and mission for Accela’s
Internet-based product solutions for government agencies and their
constituents.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Manage the assigned product line(s) across multiple solution
lines, including product vision, strategy and planning, product
requirements definition and documentation, and product release schedule

- Work in conjunction with a team of Senior Product Managers,
Product Managers, and UX Designers that provide ongoing management for
existing products

- Assess clients’ and prospects’ needs, technology trends, and
major competitors in order to synthesize product requirements; utilize
market/client/industry research and analysis to develop and maintain a
long-range product road map

- Develop Functional Requirements Documents that define
product enhancements and development initiatives

- Manage the development of prototypes illustrating specific
product enhancements and development initiatives

Assume ultimate ownership of all product deliverables throughout all
phases of the Product Life Cycle
Assume direct ownership of key product deliverables such as concept
and requirements definition documents, and sales and marketing tools
Coordinate and manage the efforts of cross-departmental personnel
during the Product Life Cycle
- Facilitate business process changes as required to improve
organizational and product line performance

- Regularly interact with industry leaders and target users in
order to stay abreast of industry changes

Participate in product design activities that generate user friendly
solutions that provide clear end-user benefits and differentiation
from competitor products
Act as the primary evangelist for all assigned product lines to
current and potential customers, partners, and Sales and Services teams
Up to 25% travel required

Job Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business,
Marketing, or other technology, domain-specific or internet-related
field.
Minimum 3 years experience with the full lifecycle of product development
Product management experience at a web-based services company desirable
Domain experience with any of the following highly desirable:
City/County/State Permitting, Planning, Code Enforcement, Business and
Occupational Licensing and Case Management, Infrastructure Asset
Management, and/or Service Request/311.
Government-sector experience, especially in the desired domain areas
highly desirable
Goal-oriented, with ability to not only conceptualize products but
also manage and optimize them throughout their lifecycle
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage and develop
various products at different stages
Excellent communication skills, to both internal and external
stakeholders, both oral and written, including authorship of
product-related documentation
Must work well in a team, fast-paced, and deadline-driven environment
Working knowledge of technology components: Internet- and portal-based
solutions, multi-tiered architectures, JAVA, RDBMS, XML and Web Services.
