In this position, the individual will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering matters related to Oracle database(s), including base definition, structures, documentation, upgrades, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and protection. The individual will lead a team that delivers the architecture and engineering support for all Oracle databases and projects in an enterprise environment, ensure accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools such as base dictionaries, establish and maintain security integrity controls, and formulate and monitor policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. In addition, the individual will design, build and deliver the database environment for all enterprise and business projects, plan database installations, upgrades, patches and other major activities of the Oracle Database environment (9i/10g), design the backup and high availability solutions for the Oracle d
atabase environment, and be the escalation point for resolution of complex issues on existing databases. Finally, the individual will be responsible for capacity planning of database infrastructure, query development and
optimization, performing in-depth analysis and maintenance of application security and schemas, writing and maintaining documentation for relevant processes and procedures, defining and enforcing database related service level agreements, and assisting in leading and supervising other DBAs. Other responsibilities may include directing the following: troubleshooting, recovery, tuning of the database, software installation and upgrades, resolving Oracle errors and failures, auditing activities, and resource utilization.
This position requires a BS/BA degree or equivalent with 10+ years experience as an Oracle Database Engineer/Architect supporting large applications in a complex, heterogeneous production environment. The ideal individual must have experience with taking abstract business requirements and designing a full scale database environment from scratch to meet the needs, experience performance tuning, optimization, and advanced troubleshooting of Oracle, in depth knowledge of various Oracle backup/recovery methodologies and strategies, deep familiarity with various tools and methods for administering the database infrastructure, specific experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, RMAN, NetBackup etc., and proven ability to achieve results in a fast moving, dynamic environment. The individual must be self-motivated and self-directed, however, must have also demonstrated ability to work well with people and have a proven desire to work as a team member, both on the same team and outside of the t
eam. In addition, the individual must have the abilities to work effectively cross-functionally, coordinate priorities and initiatives, troubleshoot and analyze complex problems, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required, as well as Solaris administration experience and experience with different NAS and SAN technologies.
