Their services allow clients to rapidly create, deploy, balance & scale Windows & Linux cloud servers in minutes with a user friendly UI.
Job Summary:
Hands on & Technical Software Development Manager for this 110 person and growing company. This person will be responsible for a team of 10 software engineers and you will lead them in Software Development & Build/Release. You will define and lead high level implementations in an Agile Environment, including Process, Tools and Resources.
This position is *not- a pure management position; this person is expected to contribute technically to their projects.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the software development process, including task planning and code reviews
- Manages a team of release/builds engineers, including development environment management and production change reviews
- Define and establish processes for how people should work together, within your team, across engineering, and also across company departments
- Ability to form strong cross-functional relationships to provide the ability to lead a sizable project team, taking the project from start to finish.
- Provides a breadth and depth of understanding system integration and cost/time impact.
- Work closely with product management to ensure we’re building the best products
- Document design as needed for internal design reviews and coding
- Demonstrate management capabilities to provide guidance and mentorship of others
Experience Required:
- 5 years of experience managing software engineers, developing functional specifications, cost/benefits analysis of projects
- 5 years experience using iterative development methods, scrum or XP preferred
- Experience with systems programming - machine control code, etc.
- Experience developing products using server virtualization technologies (Xen, KVM highly preferred)
- 10 years expertise with server operating systems (windows and *nix), and all common internet protocols, languages, and applications
- 5 years technical project management experience and a proven track record for delivering projects on-time with limited budget and resources
- 5 years of experience working with off-shore engineering teams
*SaaS/ Hosted Delivery Experience
Experience Desired:
- Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge, and experience with multi-tiered mission-critical systems preferred.
- Ability to manage complex technical projects.
- Demonstrates expertise in problem solving and technical innovation.
- Demonstrated experience of delivering on commitments to clients.
- Demonstrates capability of “rolling-up sleeves and getting hands dirty”.
- Ability to read and modify Java, Python, and PERL code.
- Works well in fast-paced growing environment.
- May have prior start-up experience and demonstrate ability to adapt.
- Provides excellent influential communication skills and business acumen to both an arbitrator and advocate for technical issues.
- Travel requirements limited to occasional conferences - 1-2 weeks per year total
Required Education:
- College degree in computer science or engineering (or equivalent experience)
