Churchill Downs, Inc., the leading public company in the US thoroughbred horse racing industry, is looking for a Software Project Manager to manage project schedules and task details for software and internet projects. The project manager will utilize project management tools such as reports, tracking charts, checklists, and project scheduling software (MS Project and task). This position will develop and manage the schedules and efforts of several technology initiatives coordinating with various groups consisting of in-house staff, vendors, and contractors (both onshore and offshore). This position is based in Mountain View, CA on Castro Street. May require up to 25% travel as needed due to geographically distributed teams.

Responsibilities:

Manage overall projects and product release
cycles, across geographically distributed internal resources, vendors and
contractorsKeep management informed about the status of
projects, and proactively escalate issues that effect schedule, scope or
budgetDevelop and manage schedule for projects from
inception all the way through rollout Successful delivery and timeliness of projects Engage the project teams (e.g., software
development, operations, marketing, customer support, vendors, contractors,
etc.) to determine the deliverables, schedule and resource commitments
throughout the project lifecycle Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that
the scope, requirements, project objectives, and success criteria are
clearly defined, documented, and communicated Prepare and obtain management approval of the project plan and schedules, clearly identifying required resources and
ownerships Analyzing project risk and mitigation
accordingly, including establishing contingency plans and initiating corrective
action Tracking and reporting on progress to plan on a
regular basis Establishing and maintaining clear and
consistent project communications Making sure project resources are applied
according to the approved project plan and escalating as appropriate, if
otherwise Manage customer beta programs for new features
and releases Continually evaluate and enhance release methodology/processes

Qualifications:

B.S. Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university5+ years of experience in managing software and/or web application projects Experience managing large software development projects A sufficiently technical background to
understand the technologies and intuitively understand the technical risks
involved with online, consumer-facing, web-based transactional
applications, to be able to anticipate and identify critical obstacles. Non-technical project managers need not apply.Online financial services, online data services, online gaming, or online consumer entertainment experience preferred. Excellent written and verbal communications and presentation skills. Attention to detail.Ability to communicate effectively with both senior management as well as with team members (e.g. development, test organizations) Ability to travel up to 25% for project
management and coordinationWorking experience in Agile and other project
management methodologies Management of technical vendor relationships and outsourced development projects, both onshore and offshore PMP Certification is a plus
