Summary:
Websense is seeking a highly technical QA Manager to drive quality programs for our line of industry leading network security solutions.
The QA Manager is responsible for managing all activities of a QA team engaged in but not limited to test planning, execution, functional test automation, and performance testing. In this role, you will provide leadership, direction, expertise, and hands-on assistance to a team of highly technical, globally distributed QA engineers responsible for ensuring the quality of the company’s expanding suite of security solutions.
As a member of the QA management team, you will work with a variety of groups across multiple disciplines to streamline, integrate, and continuously improve the effectiveness of the QA organization. As a manager you will be responsible for administrating policies for employee development, performance planning and reviews, counseling, and evaluations. Experience in offshore activities preferred. This position reports to the QA Director.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the complete end-to-end quality strategy for one or more development programs within Engineering.
- Develops expert-level (white box) understanding of Websense solutions and their use by our customers. Ensures test strategies both address the technical risks and lead to customer success with our solutions.
- Develops and executes a functional test automation strategy that delivers substantial ROI and measurable increases in QA efficiency.
- Creates and executes performance, stress, and benchmarking test strategies that ensure our products meet or exceed performance targets.
- Continuously streamlines and improves the testing life cycle to ensure test planning, execution, and reporting are effective, agile, and coordinated.
- Provides technical expertise in the use of software testing tools to QA engineers developing automation architectures, custom test tools, and complex test environments.
- Works closely with development, product management, documentation, and technical support to ensure that the quality objectives of all projects are met within schedule constraints.
- Clearly communicates QA results, concerns, and project status to the engineering management team and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
- This position may manage software engineers working within the Quality Assurance department.
Experience:
- At least 6 years experience in the software industry
- BA/BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience with networking technologies such as TCP/IP, sockets programming, network protocols such as streaming, IM, peer-to-peer, etc.
- Knowledge of testing tools and methodologies for quantifying the performance characteristics of distributed software applications.
- Knowledge of software security technologies such as encryption, key management, as well as understanding of vulnerabilities and best practices.
- Programming Languages: C/C++, Java, J2EE, Perl, C#, SQL
- Experienced leader focused on quality and the success of the customer.
- Strong QA methodology, process, as well as technical leadership.
- Past experience leading highly technical teams leveraging advanced QA tools and techniques.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.
- Solid understanding of software programming best practices and principles including data structures, object-oriented design, exception handling, modularity and reuse.
- Strong sense of ownership of open project issues particularly with regard to quality and the requisite tenacity to see issues through to closure.
- Must excel in a fast-paced, agile environment where critical thinking and strong problem solving skills are required for success.
- Innovative thinker who is positive, proactive, and readily embraces change.
- Recent hands-on software development experience is a plus.
