Science Writer, Silicon Valley, 5 years + life science degree; $60k-$90k, permanent

MarCom Placements is searching for a Science Writer, for our client, a Silicon Valley biotech company. We are seeking an experienced science writer for a manager-level job in the company’s corporate communications department doing both internal and external communications.

Candidates need five years professional journalism experience and a four-year degree in one of the life sciences. The job requires the writing speed and skill that only comes from professional experience, so we will not consider candidates who don’t meet that requirement.

Our client is also producing video and audio media and preference will be given to candidates who have experience in those mediums, as well as with graphic design programs such as Illustrator and Quark.

We are seeking a candidate who has made the decision to leave journalism, but who still carries high journalistic standards and the desire to tell a clear, well-structured and compelling story. An ex-science writer for nature magazines, scientific magazines, etc., who is ready to take the jump from journalism into scientific writing for a product, some in-house communications writing and public relations writer would be a strong candidate.

This writer will interview and write about subjects internally, as well as talk to top scientists from around the world.

We believe that we are the most innovative and compelling corporate communications anywhere right now and we are seeking a candidate who is interested in contributing to that effort.

The compensation is expected to be $60k - $90k, depending upon experience and education. The writer can telecommute 2-3 days a week.

Selected candidates will undergo a thorough series of writing and editing tests. Clips and formal cover letter will also be requested of selected candidates.
