Lead Product Manager job description:

We need an experienced product manager who has great talent for identifying and analyzing problems experienced by IT people and developers. The perfect person will also have experience working with engineers to design innovative products. This person will own definition, product marketing and sales support for specific feature improvements and extensions for our product
family. He or she will work closely with the software engineers, web developers and QA engineers to ensure these offerings are as accessible, useful and appealing as possible. The Lead Product Manager will supervise the creation of technical documentation, author product marketing content, analyze competitive features, build in-depth demos for technical audiences,
support strategic sales and partnering opportunities, and track and consolidate customer requirements and input from many channels.

This position reports to a dedicated product management executive. Candidates must have 5 to 10 years of experience (with 5+ years in inbound, technical product management) in a software category that is targeted at the IT professional such as systems management, application servers, databases, networking or security. The ideal person will have brought several major
successful product releases to market in both startup and mature organizations.

You should also be savvy about web and open source concepts and be able to think creatively about how to leverage them inside the corporate data center. You should understand and be close to the IT end user - the person who is actually making IT systems run in organizations of all kinds - while also understanding how C-level IT decisions are made. You must have hands-on
technical skills that will allow you to analyze, document and demonstrate scenarios for analyzing logfiles and other raw IT data, troubleshoot distributed software errors, configure for logging, manipulate large multi-gigabyte datafiles using Unix commandline utilities, use network
utilities like FTP and rsync, install server software on Linux/Unix/BSD and Windows, and use SOAP/REST/XML/C++/Python developer APIs. At the same time, you must understand the different software sales processes for OEMs, strategic accounts and inside sales and know what product technical sales tools, training and information are needed from product management for each.
