Director Software Engineering
Our client is a large, multi Billion $ publicly traded company. Niwa Inc
is working with the VP of the Silicon Valley Business Unit of this company
to recruit a Director of Software Engineering

Location: Silicon Valley, CA or Seattle, WA
Reports to: VP of Silicon Valley Business Unit

Department Description
Mobile Device Software Solutions defines, creates and introduces
end-to-end mobile solutions that differentiate the company’s devices and
drive device margins and volume.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations
a.. Manage global client application software and server software
engineering teams to deliver solutions to the market.
b.. Drive the solutions architecture that enables next generation
solution using SCREEN3 to enable rapid turn-around of new product features.
c.. Work with Solutions operations team to drive process and efficiency
improvements across solution components.
d.. Participate in the definition of critical quality metrics. Drive
teams toward substantial improvements and communicate progress and plans at
monthly reviews.
e.. Ensure scalability metrics are met.
f.. Build strong cross-team change management and backwards
compatibility philosophies into developed solutions.
g.. Work extensively with the product planning team to respond with
effort estimates on new feature and product requests.
h.. Work closely with peer development managers to identify cross
component team improvements and drive for execution.
i.. Candidate must be willing to travel ~30% of time to manage remote
engineering teams

Specific Knowledge/Skills
a.. 10+ years’ software development experience in embedded mobile
devices and/or mobile services environments
b.. Proven experience delivering complex software products on-time with
high quality
c.. Experience managing software teams in multi-time zones
d.. Experience driving software improvements in a “zero defects”
environment
e.. Experience with DOORS
f.. Strong understanding of budgeting process for engineering costs
