Position: Application Server / SQL Server Admin

Details:

Our client is San Francisco is looking for an experienced Application Server Admin with some experience in SQL Server Administration. This position performs complex installations, administration and support functions in the various technologies.

Responsibilities:

Installation of MS SQL software.
Database creation / upgrade.
Creation and management of database objects.
Performance monitoring / tuning using SQL Profiler and Performance Monitor.
Database backup and restore.
Setup system monitoring via scripts and enterprise tools.
Provide proactive first-response to system generated alerts (such as capacity & system availability), and ad-hoc user requests.
Work closely with IT and business partners to provide technical solutions to business requirements.
Support, administer and maintain the production and pre-production SQL Server database environments running on the Unix/Windows platform.
Create and clone environments to support implementation activities.
Perform environment refreshes.
Build and Deploy JAVA applications
Responsible for migration of objects to production
Establish processes to optimize usability
Provide troubleshooting and development support for both large and small project teams.
Participate in project implementations for both large and small projects.
Provide guidance on patch installations especially around security related fixes.
Participate in 24×7 support rotation.

Requirements/ Qualifications:

BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
A Minimum of 5 years experience working with any of the 3 application servers: Websphere/Apache-Tomcat/JBoss
Minimum of 2 year DBA experience in a production environment working with MS SQL 2000 and above
Understanding of database systems, concepts, and architecture
Proven experience in tuning databases / queries
Shell scripting on IBM AIX or Redhat Linux is desirable
Technical ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across multiple technologies
Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies
Experience with monitoring tools used in a JAVA based environment
Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm and desire to learn and assimilate new technologies
Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
Self-motivated and can effectively manage multiple tasks
Ability to participate in on-call rotation schedule
